2 piece rotors are made to address thermal expansion of the rotor. A full floating rotor allows for growth in the radial direction (look at the small gaps between the steel braking surface and the aluminum carrier) and also axial float. The axial float helps to minimize/eliminate rotor runout and pad knock (not such a big deal in mountain biking but in auto).

hey whats up cory? i was planning on selling my 09 demo and getting the 2010 demo 8II because i get bikes at cost with my sponsorship and all that... but im interested in your trek.. and its available now rather than the demo thats not available to me until september/october. i was wondering if i could take a trip over to moscow sometime and take a look at the trek and ride it around a bit. Get back to me soon so i can make plans to drive down there. Thank.
